Hawkshead Memories

A/B Walk 2nd April 2023
There were seven walkers who set off from the coach park in the tiny Lakeland village of Hawkshead , on this, the latest East Lancashire Ramblers Coach Ramble outing to Hawkshead.

Latterbarrow

As this was graded an A/B walk, the members of the party knew to expect some fairly steep wet and muddy paths and they were not disappointed. The climb up Latterbarrow was exhilarating but the reward was well worth the effort as the views of the Coniston range and across to the Howgills was our prize.

As we continued along forestry tracks, the vista opened out giving us further spectacular views of the surrounding fells as we made our way steadily south to the village of Far Sawrey. We had our lunch overlooking a delightful tarn with the Langdale fells as the backdrop. Mute Swans were calling out to one another on the tarn and buzzards soared overhead all providing the entertainment during our brief stay.  After our lunch stop we were off again and descended to the path running along the shoreline of Windermere, which we followed for a couple of miles toward Base Rock, before heading inland back along muddy forest tracks to Colthouse and onto Hawkshead. This was a 9.5 mile walk.
