Castleton is a beautiful village situated at the head of the Hope Valley in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The village is popular for its show caves, history, shops, Winnats Pass, the renowned Cave Dale Walk and for those wishing to explore on foot there are numerous footpaths in the area . Castleton is surrounded by hillsides and overlooked by Mam Tor (the shivering mountain) and the ancient Peveril Castle.

Join one of our organised led walks or explore the areas many footpaths independently.

B Walk
Leader: Tony Culverhouse
Distance: 8 miles Moderate/Strenuous

We head East from Castleton to Hope.  We then head North to the village of Aston and then begin a long and strenuous climb to Win Hill Pike, with panoramic views over the Ladybower Reservoir, the Vale of Edale and the Hope Valley.  We then descend to Killhill Bridge and head West past Losehill Hall to Castleton.

  • Spectacular views

A good number of stiles and a strenuous climb

C/D Walk
Leader: Michael Counter
Distance: C Walk 7 miles, D Walk 4 miles Moderate

The walk starts from the car park in Castleton and winds it’s way through tiny streets to emerge onto a rocky track that steadily climbs along to Speedwell Caverns. A minor road passing Treak Cliff Cavern is taken which leads to the road damaged by the land slip on Mam Tor. We continue along level tracks passing Woodsears and Only Grange Farm before descending down Hollowford Road. If you only want a 4 mile walk you will now leave us and follow the lane, a short easy route, down into Castleton.

C Walkers continue here, passing the Outdoor Centre and behind Losehill Hall to walk along level field paths towards the village of Hope. After leaving Hope the route will follow paths, crossing the mineral railway track and then besides Peakshole Water to reach Castleton.

  • The paths can be muddy, only 8 stiles and mostly kissing or swing gates.

We will not be climbing to the top of any hills but the views are spectacular down the Hope Valley (Weather permitting
