6th November Buxton

Buxton is the place to refresh your body, mind and soul.

Ramblers Members can book from Sunday, 2nd October.  Non-Members from Wednesday, 12th October 2022

Home of Buxton Water, this special thermal spa town is nestled in the centre of the beautiful Peak District, surrounded by the UK’s oldest National Park.

Stunning ornamental gardens and world-famous Georgian and Victorian architecture provide an impressive backdrop to a rich and vibrant range of music, theatre and festivals.

Discover a wealth of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, natural wonders such as Poole’s Cavern and relaxing spas.

If you’re after a Peak District adventure, a relaxing escape or a bit of both, Buxton is the place to be with East Lancs Coach Rambles on the 6th November. Buxton is surrounded by a network of public footpaths and trails waiting to be walked.

B Walk   Leader: Tony Culverhouse   10 miles   Good Strong Boots Required!

We head north-west out of Buxton along the Whaley Bridge Road (not too steep but steadily rising), to follow the Midshires Way.  We then descend to Errwood Reservoir and the Goyt Valley.  We then head uphill along a track alongside the River Goyt to meet a moorland track.  This panoramic track gives a good view of Buxton down below as we start to descend the very stoney track.  We descend carefully east back to Buxton.  Nothing too strenuous, steadily rising sections and some very stoney/pebbly descents

C Walk   Leader: Lynn Bourke 8 miles Moderate

This is a walk to a folly high on a hill overlooking Buxton and the surrounding area.  We pass the University of Derby, go through Cavendish Golf Club to reach Watford Farm and Watford Wood.  We follow Bishop’s Lane to Plex Lodge,  Shay Lodge and Macclesfield Old Road.  Then we head across the fields towards the River Wye and then cross over the river.  A bit of road walking until we reach Grin Low Road and then Grin Lon & Buxton Country Park.  This is now part of the Dane Valley Way. We walk to the top of the hill, where Solomon’s Temple awaits – with stunning views of the Buxton area from the height of 439 metres.  Then it is downhill and a walk into the lovely Buxton Park towards the Buxton Opera House and then head back towards our start.

D walk Leader: tbc 6 miles   Easy
