Walk Memories Glossop
October

Glossop, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, was the destination for the October East Lancs Coach Ramble.

Our journey from Darwen was ‘interesting’ – with the coach at times feeling like a ship in a rough sea. However, it didn’t seem to put any walkers off! The rain (which continued all day) and the low cloud detracted from the scenic views – although it did make a very atmospheric atmosphere!

A quick count revealed 7 walkers ready for the A/B option, only to be joined by 3 others as we moved off. We walked up through Manor Park into the quaint Old Glossop, then on into the Peak District National Park and Longdendale. We crossed the dam between the Torside and Rhodeswood Reservoirs – a section of the Pennine Way – then followed a disused railway along the northern side of the Rhodeswood and Valehouse Reservoirs. At the end of the Valehouse Reservoir we crossed the dam separating it from the Bottoms Reservoir and headed on to the village of Padfield. As we followed the road into Glossop, the sun came out briefly!
