Details of the Walks on the Day
The details of all the walks available on the day are below.

A/B Walk  Leader: Tony Culverhouse  Distance: 9 miles moderate

We leave the coach at Bridgedale Brow and take the lane south-east across Hoff Moor to the small village of Drybeck. We then head east, passing Haybanks to the waterfall (Rutter Force) and then south to Catherine Holme. We head east to Brow Foot and on to Helm Road - with impressive views of the Howgills (Longfell Pike and Musgrave Fell). Our route continues north to Ormside Mill and on to the village of Great Ormside. We carry on in a northerly direction to Appleby.

Mostly level with small uphills. Some scattered patches of mud. Some parts of the route across fields are very bumpy - need steady feet. Also need to be very sure-footed along final section.

C/D Walk Leader: Graham Wrigglesworth Distance: 6.5 - 7 miles moderate

We leave Appleby by Bank Lane footpath, climbing steadily to pass through a housing estate on to a green lane leading to fields to Rachel's Wood. We then go through the wood to Bandley Bridge crossing Hoff Beck. Turning right, we follow a path/track into Colby (lunch stop on the green). We then proceed through Colby and then follow a path down some well-worn steps back to the Hoff which we follow through fields and tracks to the access road towards Colby Laithes farm. As the farm comes into view we take a track uphill then several fields to Dowpitts Wood.  We then follow the Bank Lane back into Appleby. There is then the option to cross the Eden to take a pleasant wooded walk along the riverbank to Bridge Street and into the centre of Appleby.

A few stiles
400ft ascent
Some fields are rough underfoot
