7th June 2026 Buxton
At a height of over 1,000ft, Buxton is the joint highest market town in England, but is perhaps most famous for its 'healing' spa waters.
Visitors have travelled to bathe in Buxton's mineral waters for thousands of years, but the town is also renowned for its beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture - much of it linked with the 5th Duke of Devonshire's ambitions to create a spa town to rival Bath back in the 18th century.
More information about Buxton can be found here.

Details of Walks available on the Day are shown below
A/B Walk Leader: David Mashiter Distance: 11 miles, moderate
Whilst this pleasant and varied walk is around 11 miles, all inclines are gradual and not taxing for ramblers at this level.
The route sets off in a south-easterly direction through Ashwood Park. Just after the Morrisons Supermarket on leaving the road, we cross fields, reaching the Midshires Way. Eventually, we reach Cowdale, where we intend to stop for lunch. We then proceed through fields before descending to Brierlow Dale. After crossing the A515, we make our way towards a railway line, walking parallel to it for a little way before joining a disused railway line and then passing close to the expanding village of Harpur Hill.
The route then continues alongside the disused railway, navigating through an industrial area before proceeding on to pleasant paths through fields, eventually reaching Grin Low Road. After crossing the road, we join the Dane Valley Way before reaching lovely woodland in Buxton Country Park close to Solomon's Tower. We walk downhill through the woods, eventually reaching Buxton.
Most of the tracks and paths are good. There are several stiles and a couple of busy roads to cross.
C/D Walk Leader: Graham Wrigglesworth Distance: Approx. 8 miles, moderate, with several options to head back to Buxton (walking on roads) along the route. This is a walk to a folly high on a hill overlooking Buxton and the surrounding area.
We pass the University of Derby and go through Cavendish Golf Club to reach Watford Farm and Watford Wood. We follow Bishop's Lane to Plex Lodge, Shay Lodge, and Macclesfield Old Road. We head across the fields towards the River Wye, then cross the river. A bit of road walking until we reach Grin Low Road, and then Grin Low and Buxton Country Park. This is part of the Dane Valley Way. We walk to the top of the hill, where Solomon's Temple awaits - with stunning views of the Buxton area from a height of 439 metres. It is then a downhill walk into the lovely Buxton Park towards the Buxton Opera House, and then into the town.
