Details of the Walks available on the Day appear below
A/B Walk Leader: Michael Brooker-Carey Distance: 8.5 miles moderate
Starting from the car park, we will go up the Huddersfield narrow canal for half a mile to the monumental railway viaduct. We then head east to Pob Green, climbing up to the ridge and onto the Pots and Pans stones and the Obelisk.
We then head on following the Oldham Way, down to and around Dovestone Reservoir, and from there we will head back to Uppermill via short stretches of the Mickelfield loop (for all the railway buffs!) and then back on the canal to Uppermill.
If we have adverse weather, we will miss out the higher ridge.
250 metres/820 feet of ascent
C/D Walk Leader: Jane Cordingley Distance: 6 miles easy/moderate with a shorter option of 5 miles easy/moderate
Leaving the coach, we make our way to join the Pennine Bridleway (PBW) and follow this flat track for a short time before taking field paths through Ryefields with the only short steep climb of the day. Continuing on the PBW, we pass through Holly Grove before joining a minor road. (D walkers can take a shortcut to the Huddersfield Canal here and return to Uppermill if required).
C walkers will continue on the minor road to arrive at Diggle and the Standedge Tunnel entrance. We will hopefully have lunch here. We then follow the canal back into Uppermill, passing numerous locks and not 1 but 2 canalside cafes!
This shortened walk will ease us back into walking after the Christmas break and allow us time to explore the town.
One short pull up a wooded hill and 2 stiles.
