3rd August 2025 Prestatyn

It’s fair to say that Prestatyn is more than just caravan parks! Anyone taking their eyes away from the promenade and glancing over the resort at the spectacular backdrop of the Clwydian Range will see just how close beautiful, natural attractions lie. There is so much to do in the surrounding area beyond slot machines, fairground rides and the bucket and spade to interest families, nature lovers, golfers and walkers.

More information about Prestatyn can be found here.

The area around Prestatyn offers the walker a large variety of easy and moderate walks. Explore the area individually or join one of our led walks - information about our led walks is sent out nearer the time.

Details of the Walks available on the Day appear below

A/B Walk. Leader: Tony Culverhouse. Distance: 9.5 miles, moderate

From Prestatyn we follow the Offa's Dyke Path up a steep lane out of the town to then head south into open country, with impressive views over the North Wales coast. We leave the Path heading south-east to the village of Gwaenysgor (meadow under the fort). We continue south-east to circle Gop Hill and on to the village of Trelawnyd. We then start to head north to Tyddyn Uchaf and on to our third village, Llanasa. We continue north past Ty'n-y-Caeau, giving us spectacular views over the River Dee and into England. We then head west before striking north to Bryn-Llwyn. Finally, we start to descend into Prestatyn.

Spectacular views over the coast and the distant Welsh mountains.
There are some uphill sections on good paths (no scrambling!)
The longest uphill section is the initial climb out of Prestatyn, which includes a good number of steps.

C/D Walk Leader: Michael Bates Distance: D Walk: 4 miles easy, C Walk: 7 miles moderate

The route leaves town via the Prestatyn to Dyserth Walkway, a former railway line. After approximately 1.5 miles, D walkers will leave, following a short uphill path that returns to Prestatyn. The route is self-guided through Bishops Wood, from where there are outstanding views towards the coast, the Vale of Clwyd, and, if clear, Snowdonia. This path emerges onto a lane leading towards the town. This is an easy route to follow, and further instructions will be available on the day.

C walkers will continue along the walkway before leaving and making a steep descent to the highlight of the walk, i.e. Dyserth Falls, where, if time permits, we hope to spend a little time. Afterwards, the return is by a similar route back to the walkway. When we reach the point where the D walkers left, we leave the walkway, returning by the same route as they followed earlier.

There are no stiles. Surfaces on the walkway are excellent, but keep an eye out for cyclists. Care needs to be taken on the steep descent down to the waterfall and similarly on the way back up.

Please note: there is a charge of £1 to view the falls, but it is well worth it.
