Details of Walks available on the Day appear below.

A/B Walk    Leader: Michael Brooker-Carey    Distance: 8 miles, moderate
We start the walk from the village of Carperby, where we then have a short walk down the road.  We gradually climb up towards Castle Bolton (where Mary, Queen of Scots, was "entertained" from 1556 to 1559). We walk through the village, then head downhill onto a short stretch on the old railway line to Redmir Old Station, then on to the village of Preston-under-Scar. We walk through the village, then climb up through the woods and fields up to Leyburn Shawl before heading along through the woods to Leyburn town.

Fairly level walking with steepish uphill sections and a short stretch of a fairly busy road. Walking mainly through fields and woods.

C/D Walk   Leader: Graham Wrigglesworth  Distance: 5.5 miles, moderate, with a shorter 2/3 miles option.

Starting from the centre of Leyburn, we head to the Leyburn Shawl. The Shawl was originally laid out as a place of promenade in 1841, a typical Victorian Sunday afternoon attraction, and there are panoramic views across the dale to Penhill. The path is quite narrow in places, and care should be taken. Those wishing to do the shorter option can return by retracing the Shawl back to Leyburn.

Advancing along the edge, those continuing the walk will follow the path as it drops downhill, passing an ancient settlement and field system. Continuing along, we pass Tullis Cote Farm before heading on to the village of Wensley and back to Leyburn.
