Details of the Walks available on the Day
A/B Walk: Leader Jean Ashcroft Walking Distance: 10 miles moderate
We will leave Ilkley, following the Dales Way towards Addingham. We will then cross the A65 and climb up onto Ilkley Moor at Wingate Nick. We follow the Dales Highway to visit White Wells - an interesting house on the moor with a spa bath! The house is only open when the flag is flying, so hopefully it will be open on our trip! We then descend back into Ilkey.
Probably muddy in places, so please wear suitable footwear/gaiters!
C Walk: Leader Michael Counter Walking Distance 7.5 miles or 4 miles Hill climb at start
We alight the coach in Ilkely and follow Cowpasture Road out of town to reach the edge of Ilkley Moors. Here the walk continues the steady climb to the Cow and Calf rock formation. The route now follows moorland paths across Ilkley Moors (where the singing of that famous song is allowed) towards White Wells and the Bath House. There is now an opportunity to head directly back down into Ilkley town centre which will give you a 4 miles walk.
Those wishing to continue on the full walk will follow the Millennium Way heading towards Heber's Ghyll with a look at the Swastika Stone. Field paths are now followed heading down towards the River Wharfe and then the Dales Way back into Ilkley.
This walk does involve a long climb at the start, but will be taken at a steady pace with plenty of stops. The views from the moors is well worth the effort of the climb.
Other Walks
There are level walks following both sides of the River Wharfe using footbridges and the Old Bridge to form a circular route. The route goes through Riverside Gardens.
